State University of New York at Geneseo, also known as SUNY Geneseo, Geneseo State, or, colloquially, Geneseo, is a public, co-ed university in Geneseo, which is a historic village, in Livingston County, in the US state of New York, serving as the county seat of Livingston County and being entirely contained within the western part of the town of Geneseo, which has a population of 9,600, of which about 7,600 live in the village.
SUNY Geneseo was established in 1871, first starting as the Wadsworth Normal and Training School, and became a state liberal arts college in 1948. It is a University College of the State University of New York and offers its students a total of 48 undergraduate majors, six graduate programs (Master's only), and 25 interdisciplinary minors, among the most popular majors being education, business, the social sciences, biology, and psychology.
The athletic teams at SUNY Geneseo call themselves the Knights and they compete in NCAA Division III, as members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, with 20 varsity sports teams. Their distinctive colors are blue and white.
